Mental illness is a growing problem in our country and has broad reaching implications for all Canadians. Many mental health issues begin at a younger age with an estimated 1.2 million Canadian children affected by mental illness, and an estimated 800 lost to suicide each year. Stewart McKelvey is proud to support Laing House, whose sole purpose is to empower and support mental health programs for those young people who are struggling in our community.
We believe Laing House is a model organization, and has succeeded in building a space where “members can come as they are,” in a peer supported, youth-driven environment. As sponsors, we know our donations enable programs that empower the members, while promoting active and healthy lifestyles and removing the stigma attached to mental illness. Specifically, we are pleased to again act as the presenting sponsor for the Masquerade Ball, a signature event. It has raised over $1 million for Laing House since its inception in 2006. The Ball remains one of our annual sponsorships because it engages the entire community and prompts important discussion, while raising 25 per cent of Laing House’s annual budget.
For many years, Stewart McKelvey has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to community organizations throughout the region, many of which support youth and mental health. It is an important way we give back to and support the communities in which we live and work.
